CPA marketing, or Cost Per Action marketing, is used today to gain useful information from potential consumers and convert the information into profitable leads for future sales generation. Who Uses CPA Marketing? Companies that sell insurance, credit and/or debit cards, public bonds, ring tones for cell phones, or even candy and coffee use CPA networks to build their leads. Although Google used CPA networking as a major part of their advertising campaign until June 2008, eBay has now taken up this form of marketing and calls it “AdContext.”

CPA marketing is becoming increasingly more popular especially for new marketers. Why? Probably the best reason is that CPA marketing doesn’t require a sale to get paid. The affiliate can make money generating leads even when he cannot manage to sell the product that the company is making. CPA marketing is much easier for a beginner who may not have a large advertising budget to launch ad campaigns. A new affiliate can make more money in commissions because it is more likely that he can persuade a visitor at his website to submit some crucial information or complete a survey rather than go ahead and purchase a product. With a higher chance of gathering some kind of information, the marketer has a higher chance to make a bigger monthly income.

The information gathered by an affiliate can be of various kinds: telephone number, residential address, email address, social security number, credit or debit card number, zip code, etc. The importance of the information gathered by a CPA marketer will determine what the marketer will get paid. Basically, if a visitor to your website clicks on an advertisement, downloads a newsletter, signs up for a regular subscription or buys the product, you get paid a commission. All that you need are visitors to come to your website and submit crucial information about themselves that the company that you are working for can use in future marketing campaigns.

CPA marketing works through a network – a collaboration between advertisers of companies that want high lead generations for their websites and affiliates who do the marketing job for this purpose. “CPA networks” provide advertisers with a wide range of affiliates who have enlisted with them so that these various advertisers can select the most qualified affiliates for their campaigns. Unlike affiliate marketing, CPA marketing requires the marketers to receive the approval of the network. Without approval, a marketer is not allowed to promote products in the network marketplace. The approval process involves an interview and affiliates are required to have a website which can be inspected for suitability.

Since affiliate managers in a CPA network are serious about making high commissions themselves, they will carefully scrutinize the skills of the affiliates who want entrance into the network. This helps them pick the highest skilled applicants to help promote products and build leads for their clients. Affiliate managers are determined to find the best suited marketers for each project that they manage. This approval process sometimes proves difficult for a new marketer, but there are many networks and there are some who will accept beginners.

If you are hired into a CPA network, your job will be to generate traffic to the advertiser’s websites. You should pick as many products as you can manage and begin promoting as soon as possible. You are allowed to use various forms of advertising such as banner ads, pop up ads, email, keywords, article submissions, pay per click or pay per view ads, video ads and social networking to drive more traffic to the advertiser’s website. There can be a considerable amount of work involved for the affiliate to generate traffic depending on the product being marketed. Sometimes affiliates will be paid what seems a small amount for each generated lead. However, if the affiliate has built a customer list (400 to 500 prospects), then he can use that to quickly multiply his commissions and earn a much heftier paycheck per month. Having a list of potential customers always helps the bottom line!

Most people have heard of affiliate marketing, but many people are not yet aware of CPA marketing and the networks that are available. So there is still time for new marketers to jump into a network and start making very good money. For this reason, CPA marketing has gained in popularity and many new marketers are gravitating to it. They enjoy being paid higher commissions for each action they generate rather than by a percentage of the sale of an item. And, they don’t need to wait until the product has sold in order to get a paycheck. This makes it much easier for a new marketer to continue to work on many projects in the network without running out of resources.
